How to Convert JPG to PNG
Converting JPG to PNG takes seconds with an online tool. The more useful question is when it's worth doing — PNG protects your image from further quality loss but can't restore what JPG compression already removed.
The steps
No account, no watermark, and the file is processed in memory without ever being stored.
- Open the JPG to PNG converter.
- Upload your .jpg file — drag and drop, or browse.
- Click Convert (PNG is already selected as the destination).
- Download the .png file.
When converting to PNG actually helps
- You're going to edit the image repeatedly — PNG saves are lossless, so edit/save cycles stop degrading the picture.
- You're uploading somewhere that only accepts PNG.
- The image is a screenshot, diagram or graphic that was wrongly saved as JPG and you want to stop further artifacts from accumulating.
When it doesn't help
A common misconception is that converting a blurry JPG to PNG will sharpen it. It won't: the detail JPG compression discarded is gone permanently. The PNG will be a faithful (and much larger) copy of the JPG exactly as it looks now.
If your goal is smaller files for the web rather than lossless editing, go the other direction — convert to WEBP, which cuts size while keeping quality visually identical.
A note on metadata
JPGs from phones and cameras usually carry EXIF metadata: GPS location, device model, timestamps. Filembly strips all of it during conversion (after applying orientation), so the PNG you share doesn't leak where the photo was taken.
