Merging is the most common thing people need to do with PDFs: stitching scanned pages back together, combining an invoice with its receipts, or assembling chapters into one file before sending.
How it works
Filembly opens each PDF you upload and copies every page into a new document, in the order your file list shows. Page content, embedded fonts and vector graphics are copied across intact — this is a structural operation, not a re-render, so nothing is re-compressed or degraded along the way.
The order matters, and it is entirely yours to control: use the arrows beside each file to move it earlier or later before you merge.
How to merge pdfs
- Upload at least two PDF files — drag them in together or add them one at a time.
- Use the up and down arrows to arrange the files in the order you want them combined.
- Click Merge PDFs.
- Download the single combined PDF.
Limitations to know about
- Bookmarks, form fields, annotations and digital signatures are not carried across — the merged file contains the page content itself.
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be opened and are rejected with a clear message rather than failing silently.
- Up to 20 files per merge, and all the files together must fit inside the request size limit shown on the upload area.
Privacy and security
Your files are uploaded over HTTPS, processed entirely in memory and streamed straight back to your browser. They are never written to disk, never logged and never retained after the response — there is nothing to delete because nothing is stored. Does merging reduce the quality of my PDFs?
No. Pages are copied from your original files into the new document without being re-rendered or re-compressed, so text stays sharp and images keep their original resolution. The merged file is roughly the size of the originals added together.
Can I choose the order the files are combined in?
Yes. After uploading, each file has up and down arrows beside it. The list order is exactly the order the pages appear in the finished PDF, so arrange them before clicking Merge.
Is there a limit on how many PDFs I can merge?
You can merge up to 20 files at once. The practical limit is usually the combined size rather than the count — the upload area shows the size limit for a single request.
Are my files stored on your servers?
No. Your PDFs are processed entirely in memory and the merged result is streamed straight back in the same request. Nothing is written to disk, nothing is logged, and nothing remains after the response finishes.
